Narcotics In Medical Use And Vulnerability. Narcotics drugs are very much valuable and necessary in the field of surgical medicine and normal medicine which is used for treating pain.

Medical uses of narcotics are in 2 categories –

1. For treating pain and used in cough medicine preparations.
2. Post-surgical.

Besides moderating the pain sensation, narcotics produce a general sense or feeling of well-being by reducing tension anxiety , depression and aggression. These effects can help in a therapeutic setting but if used improperly , these narcotics can adversely affect that may lead to abuse like addiction and dependency. Narcotics are primarily opioids, which produce several effects that relieve pain and induce narcosis which causes sleep. Narcotics, applied prior to an operation, can cause sedation and reduce apprehension and anxiety. It can also be administered for relief of postoperative pains. Narcotics cause drowsiness, changes in mood, restlessness, and unconsciousness. These drugs possess high potentiality in abuse and addiction.

Fentanyl and other narcotics such as morphine and hydromorphone are applied for pain during uncomfortable and painful procedures, such as cardiac catheterizations. narcotics in medical use and vulnerability fentanyl is generally injected. The drugs provide short-term relief of pain and anxiety, often sedate/relaxed the patient.

Medical uses should be administrated carefully and should follow the rules and regulations for using the narcotics.

By using in medical treatment like pain-killer and for other diseases, the patient can get dependent by using that drug thus get vulnerable to the drug. Because dependency can ultimately cause abuse and addiction.
